End finally in sight

I just received an email telling me my assignment for my senior practicum and I got the hospital I wanted (Vanderbilt). I am so thrilled but getting this email has caused it to really hit home that I graduate in less than 5 months!! I can't wait and am suddenly becoming tearful at the idea of leaving my friends but also very happy to be so close to being done and moving on. I have now spent all day looking at my schedule and old syllabi (sp?) even though school does not start for a month. I thought I was going to go crazy this summer waiting for the light at the end and now that that light is becoming a little brighter I can't stand it . I'm so ready for this whole ordeal to be over. My nurse mom has always told me that nursing is a rewarding and trying profession but nursing school is cruel and unusual punishment and I'm ready for the punishment to end! Anyone else feel the same way?

I am in the same boat. I will graduate in Dec. I am looking forward to the next phase but I will miss all of my classmates. It is bitter sweet.

Re: End finally in sight

I won't graduate until next May, but I understand. I actually had a conversation kinda like that with my husband recently. I'm very excited to start my career and to start making some money finally! lol But on the other hand I'm going to miss school and seeing my friends every day. I also feel like with school, there is some certain date to look forward to.. graduation. I am counting down to reach my goal. But, once I start working, there is no date, no graduation, just work every day.. if that makes sense. I enjoy school, even though it's stressful, so I think I'll keep trying to take classes throughout my career. I plan on doing the RN-BSN program at some point and who knows where I'll go from there.

I graduate in December also and I have come to feel that NS is boot camp for nurses, lol! Two years of torture and pain but then when it's over you can stand proudly with your title as RN (after passing NCLEX) and know that you have endured, perservered, and conquered!

Re: End finally in sight

I hear you all...I am graduating in August...around 4 weeks now...there I said it!!! It is hard to believe...many feelings going on...leaving friends, starting on a new venture, state boards....It is going fast now seems like it took forever to get here. Its quite an emotional time. I know it was all worth it and you do learn something everyday. I just hope I can live up to all the other RN'S! We will all be fine you will see. Think positive, focus on the future and here we go................................................ ..Yes it was punishment but everyone is not cut out to be a nurse, when we are done we have paid our dues and will be respected for it. Good Luck to All!

Re: End finally in sight

I hear ya. 4 Mos, 28 days, 14 hrs, 23 mins, 54 sec. until we graduate (provided we get through this next hurdle). Unfortunately we don't find out about our clinical rotations until the week school starts Good luck with your last semester.
