Re: Dumb question

Easiest way to keep it straight is to plug in whatever value you're looking at right before the sign. If it's talking about blood pressure, then BP > 100 would be 'blood pressure greater than 100.'

One of my old teachers used to say that the alligator's mouth points toward the bigger one. In this case, the BP must be greater (bigger) than 100.

The way I remember it? The "Less" symbol looks like an "L"

As a math person I recommend that the easiest way to remember the difference between > (greater than) and < (less than) is to think of a number line:
less than < -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 > greater than
The tip of the "greater than" symbol (>) points to the right and to the progressively larger numbers. The tip of the "less than" symbol (<) points to the left and to the progressively smaller numbers.

Re: Dumb question

Greater than.

Think of it this way, the arrow is pointing to the direction it is intending
> is pointing to the higher #s (greater than)
< is pointing to the lower #s (less than)

Re: Dumb question

I remember it by noting that the two lines are far apart on the side of the big number and close together (come to a point) at the small number. The distance between the two lines if big next to the bigger of the two numbers.

5 > 3

Re: Dumb question

"<" looks like an "L" (sort of), reminding one of "less than."
