Depressed

I am in my 2nd semester and I did not make it through Med Surg 1. I had a lot of family problems in the beginning of the semester and bombed on the first test and wasn't able to recover. Had my last test last night and I needed an 80 to pass the class and I got a 74. At least I am passing Health Assessment. I am just so upset right now I just needed to vent. Sorry.

Re: Depressed

We had a number of students who have had to repeat semesters...either they stayed behind and joined us, or some of our original group is a semester behind us now.

The important thing in the end is that you go back. You have obviously already invested a lot of time and energy in to this career path. Do you still like it? Is there any question in your mind that this is what you want to do?

If this is still the direction you want to take, go back and repeat the semester, learn from any mistakes, try to keep the family issues at bay (easier said than done), and GO FOR IT!!

Five years from now, no one will remember that you had to repeat a semester -- NO ONE!!

Re: Depressed

I understand, and plese remember, things happen for a reason. I really do believe that! 25 years ago, I had an instructor fail me in a class and here I am 23 years of experience in nursing and a good one at that. This little set back will give you a new perspective and will work out in the long run. Use this as a learning experience and do not be hard on yourself. Be passionate and continue to work toward your goal!

Re: Depressed

So sorry you didn't make it. The positive way to view it is that you'll know exactly what to expect when you retake and you'll do better. Don't give up! Tough things happen and it sounds like you needed to be dealing with home stuff for part of the course. That's life and you did the right thing. I had an instrutor (1st semester) that told us that there is so much studying in ns that she took her books to study when she went to the hospital because she was having a miscarriage. I thought she must be more in need of psych help. Good luck next semester.

Re: Depressed

Thank you so much for the support. This is something I definitly want. It's so difficult not to be hard on your self but I have to get over it. What's done is done and I can only just keep working hard.
