Question? - which degree would you chose?

OK, I was going to apply to the nursing program next fall but my advisor at school threw me a curve ball. Apparently I have enough credits to graduate with my associates in general studies this spring which, after being in community college going on 12 years now, is an opportunity that I cannot pass up. It will give me closure and the confidence to keep going. Now, my question to everyone out there, do you think I should return to community college for my adn, then start working and possibly have a hospital help pay for my bsn or should I go ahead and try to get into the bsn program right away... I would feel sort of silly getting 2 associates degrees but it would be a less expensive option. Please advise. Thanks

Personally I would go into whichever program I could get into. I chose the ADN because I knew I had the best chance of getting in right away. If you go the BSN route chances are you will need some more courses to get up to the BSN level. You would have everything you needed for the ADN pre reqs so I would apply there, if you don't get in however or in the time it takes to get in, work toward your BSN course work so you can bridge later.

Congratulations!

If it were me, I'd go for the ADN as you probably already have the pre-reqs finished. When you become employed, hopefully they'll pay for you to get your BSN. Cost is a factor!

But, this is just my opinion.

Best of luck,
Dani

But is it dumb for me to go back and get a second associates degree?

nope not at all! Get as many as you want/ need.

I have a friend with her masters in sports medicine, she was going to my school with hopes to get an ADN in nursing, because that was the best option for her now. You do what works for you it doesn't matter what degree it is an RN is an RN. If you want to go further later then fine go for it, but if this is what will work best for you now then do that.

Here's the thing, I don't have my pre-reqs done. I'm not even taking anything this semester that would be considered for the ADN program. I chose classes this semester based on what was most convenient (offered online since I have a 10 month old baby) and that would get me walking this May. At the time of registration I wasn't planning on pursuing my nursing degree anymore. I just wanted to graduate and move on to something else. Now, after the fact, I'm once again wanting to pursue nursing. So, I guess I'll finish my general studies degree and return to community college in the fall to work on pre-reqs and my second associates degree.....
