Hey gang! I am so burnt out! I have been in school for a total of 9 years!

First, I was working full time and went to school part time and got my Associates degree. (Not in Nursing- and it took 5 years...)

Then I had the great idea to transfer to Nursing School and work part time.

After taking catch up classes, getting on the wait list, and working and studying like crazy, I got in.

I had interesting professors and tests that were unbelievable, not to mention my job telling me "they" were my priority and professors telling me my priority should be school..

Then I failed a class and had to take it over...

So here I am, suppossed to graduate in May now. I am just Burnt Out!

I was suppossed to be doing research but came across this bulletin board instead. I'm glad to know there are other students out there who work, have families and are also struggling with nursing school. It is like a 24/7 job!

My best advice to new students is Hang In There- no matter what they throw at you. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel before long.

You will find a lot of support here, many of us get "burned out" as well.

You're almost finished right, next May? you'll be finished.. hang in there

I also did the "10 year route" to nursing. In fact, when I go to my 10 class reunion, I will have just graduated from school!! Pretty sad from someone who was in the top ten of their class and had scholarships to go to school. But, it was a motivation and family factor. I am also so burnt out between school and hearing my bio clock ticking away. I look forward to graduating, yet I hate to b/c then I'll have to get a full-time job. It's a very stressful time semester wise anyway. I think we're all at that point in the year when we're ready for Christmas Break. I wish we had a "fall break", as I need the mental vacation...

I also graduate in May 2003, and I know what you mean. I feel so burnt out 99% of the time it is hard to keep motivated. I started taking classes in 1994, and wasted my first semester because I didn't see a counselor first and took classes that would not count towards my degree. I had to go part time for a few years, and when I finally had all my pre-reqs I ended up moving and had to transfer classes. Of course the new college had additional pre-req classes, so I took those, then had to move again! (Moves related to hubbys job) Finally, I got into a program, and here I am!

Well, just to warn you, Allnurses can become highly addictive! I find myself here when I should be studying or writing a paper, thinking, "I'll just read one more thread!"

I totatlly agree with burn out! I'm in a two year ADN program and hopefully will graduate in May 2003. Until I started Nursing classes, I was a 4.0 student....now? I'm happy just to keep a 'B' average.

That is so unlike me. But I can't stand to study at this point! I haven't done ANY homework or reading since mid-September!

But I will keep on keepin on cause I can't stand the thought of having to come back and try again!!!

Finding this site has been so encouraging to me!!! Keep checking and take some time to laugh; that's how I'm making it!

I totally empathize with you. I'm 24 and I've been in college for 7 years and 1.5 years of that being in nursing school. I just got done with critical care/psych semester and I'm feeling soooooooooooo unbearably tired and exhausted...literally. Plus the 1 hr commute to school and to the hospitals doesn't really help me physically. Plus, I lack a social life due to school and my tiredness. The time that I do have to possibly go out and have fun, take a breather...I spend catching up on sleep and rest. Sigh...anyway, I'm just burnt out and want to live a normal life again...exercise, eat well, not stress as much, etc. etc. I just visited some family relatives this past Thanksgiving and they were shocked to see me so skinny (from stress), bags under my eye...I look sickly. Stress, stress, stress...I sooooooooo can't wait til graduation...I really sick n' tired of school...nrsg school.
