The OB, peds, and psych classes are only 4-5 weeks each, so it shouldn't overlap for you, and it won't be bad at all. We are taking OB and peds now in 4th semester and we took psych in 2nd. Actually we finish OB this week and peds start next week, so I don't know how hard peds is. Psych wasn't too hard, just brush up on theraputic communication. OB is challenging in that it is different from anything else we've had, but it's not too bad. You'll be fine. Good luck, you're almost half way there!!!

Hi Sandy,
If it's financially feasible I would only work part time at the most. Even that was difficult for me to do though. I worked 2 days a week at the beginning of the program but had to take a leave of absence for the last two semesters. It's pretty intense especially the first and last semester so be prepared.
It's an interesting journey with lots of highs and lows but it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck.

I worked full time all through nursing school. I also managed to keep my grades up. Then again, some have called me insane... But, I did it! I would suggest working for a hospital (as I did) and work three 12's a week. THere is probably no way I could have done a five day a week 9-5 type job. There is just not enough time in the day. Pm me if you have questions.

Working and Nursing School.
One thing that you might want to consider is:
If you are married and/or have children, working full-time may not be feasable. Like Sandy, I worked part-time through the first half of our program. Then it just became too much for me and I quit.
I am married and have an eight-year-old. And there were many times that I had to choose between spending extra time studying or spending time with my family. Plus there is the kids homework, baths, etc. that have to be taken care of each night. Even if you have a very supportive S.O., the kids still want you.
Another thing to consider along with the family is that Brookhaven does not take the summers off like other programs. Therefore, you can get burned out really fast if you don't take a little time for yourself.
So, just take into consideration what you might want to use those "extra" little hours for....family, self, studying, work, etc. Many students have pulled it off, but everyone's circumstances are different, and I think most of those that worked were single w/o kids.
Good luck to y'all.

I am lucky enough to have a job where I can study at work on good weather days and is very flexible with my schedule.
Thanks for the info and good luck to y'all also.

If any BH Nursing Program "newbies" want to buy any text books or resource books for their future classes, let me know by private message with your phone number/email or post here and I'm sure we can get you some books. There are several people in my class willing to sell books. It's either sell them or burn them! And we could use the money .
