Okay, they just opened a Nursing school here first class started Jan 8th and they claim they have other schools w/ graduates and accredidations, has anyone ever heard of these people?

Are you sure it's a RN program, not a LPN or CNA program? I would be a bit surprised if they are accredited by the NLN or whatever. Apollo college is one of those trade school places that usually have no prerequisites to enter. They are usually "accredited" by some local or regional branch of trade school organizations.

Take a look at the program description, the required classes, ensure they are accredited with the right organizations and make sure that your credits will transfer to any college in the US. I've heard of Apollo college, Antonelli college, etc. In fact, back in the early 90's I made the mistake of going to a trade school to get a "degree" in legal assisting. It was expensive and four months into my eight month program, they went out of business. They reopened two months later under a different name. They went out of business six months later. They were stopped by the state of Oregon from opening again. What really sucked was that I had to pay back the federal student loans before I could attend a real college again. Nowadays they have rules to protect the consumer/student and if it happened today, I would not have to pay that back.

Do your homework. Everything they promise you should be validated by an outside source first. Your first call should be to your state nursing board to verify that their program is legit. Good luck.

Thanks, I went to a Info session and it is a Nursing course. They have the pre req's and my community college one's would transfer. It's accredited w/ ABHES? But since they haven't graduated the first class, they are not accredited w/ NLN. So that's why I'm worried...Just like u got screwed..So I'm scared about that. So I dont know if I'm gonna even try. Thanks for the input and sorry a school got you. They did have one in Oregon too. But I dont think they offered nursing. Just LPN.

I actually started nursing school in New Mexico at Apollo College. I think they have a very good program in comparison to the program I am enrolled in now. They have all BRAND new top of the line mannikins! The teachers were great (but i heard apollo stole them from local community colleges by offering bigger pay)....The worst thing about the program is it's really REALLY expensive!!!! But if you plan on working in a hospital then you might qualify for loan repayment so the loans will be covered. But you also complete the program in less then 18 months. So it's a toss up cost vs. finishing faster?!?! But if you have not finished your pre req classes I recommend you do that at either a University or community college for many reason

1. they will always transfer
2. the ability to apply to many schools

I have heard of them in Spokane Washington(I am not exactly sure where you are at) I know they have programs all over. They are a trade school...so pretty much you pay more for it in a shorter time w/ little to none wait list!

I go to a trade school that has a LPN/LPN bridge/RN program. The RN program started just a while ago and it is true that they have to graduate one class before they get acceridated...which is what everyone has to do. Let me tell you that it is VERY intense and prepare to not do anythig but school for the whole time, but its worth it!

Also Apporved and Acceridated is 2 different things. It doesnt take pretty much anything to get approved through the state...min. standards pretty much a monkey could do it(ok that might not be true!)
To get Acceridated the school has to seek out a indepenant company that has already standards estabished and the school has to meet them and they are monitored by them.

Also....not ALL nursing schools are NLN acceridated. If you are to worried you can call the BON and talk to them but to be honest you shouldnt have a problem with a known school like them because they arent going to "risk" things.

Thank you all for replying and helping me out...This is what the Nursing Board said to me....I'm just scared of enrolling and then them end up screwing me. (sorry). It's a lot of money to spend. 38,000 dollars..whew. So I guess I would like to find out if anyone Graduated from their program anywhere else.

The Board cannot recommend a particular nursing school. We can tell you that both the University of Southern Nevada and Apollo College have received provisional approval from the Nevada State Board of Nursing (see our website www.nursingboard.state.nv.us for a list of all approved schools of nursing in Nevada).
This means that they meet the initial legal requirements to conduct a nursing education program in Nevada. After a nursing education program is nationally accredited (which can only occur after it graduates its first class) and its students attain an 80 percent pass rate on the NCLEX, the school can apply to the Board for full approval.

Nevada regulations state that for purposes of licensure, applicants who have attended and graduated from a provisionally approved school in the process of attaining accreditation are eligible for Nevada licensure.

I think the tuition they are charging is ridicules. I have hear figures of 25,000 and up for an ADN. I'm a BSN student and my University charges 2,000 per semester-- that means it's only going to cost $10,000 for my degree + prerequisite work which has cost me like $1,800 total.

I think they are taking advantage of desperate students that have families and can't afford to wait for community college waiting lists.

I actually believe WcBrinkeroff with all my heart. Not only will you be paying or defaulting on loans for years , but colleges and recruiters might frown at this College on your resumes and admission forms. You must research what is right for you deeply. The US Department of Education understands the practices of these for -profit proprietary schools. In retrospect their effect on Community welfare is like a butterfly bandage on a hemorrhage (IMO only.)

Thanks so much.... Let me remind you--the people that are building a family... People like me... When you owe 30,000 in student loans, you WILL NEVER be able to buy your own house. "No mortgage company will give you a loan towards buying a house. No one wants to loan money to a person that owes that much money.

They are taking advantage of people. They may have all the simman "bells and whistles," but many schools go without such technology and produce some of the best nurses! And new GNs owe alot less money!

Think about that....
