Hi, it looks like there are quite a few of us "oldies" making a career change! I needed to do something different than legal secretary which I had done for over 20 years. Also, I wanted something where I felt it was rewarding and nursing seemed to fulfill that from all my research into the field. Of course, I am just getting started and have so much to see and learn, but I am excited and look forward to it. I started school when I was 48 and will also be 51 by graduation. I am a mother of 4 grown children (2 mine and 2 stepchildren) and a grandmother of 3 (1 will be 2 in October; 1 newborn to come in Oct; and 1 newborn to come in mid-August!). Life is good! God Bless!

Oh, I am also taking A & P this summer! Busy Busy!

Re: Any starting in Fall 2008

It really is great to hear of others changing careers at this age. When I started considering it, I thought I had waited too long and was too old to learn new tricks. Guess that is not really true! They seem a little harder to learn, but having a lot of life under my belt has really helped keep my perspective and my goals in sight! God Bless us all in our endeavors!

I know what you mean about feeling that it might be too late to start something new. I felt the same way, but I knew that if I didn't start I'd still be wondering several years later down the road. Now, here I am getting ready to actually start nursing school after spending a year to get my pre-reqs out of the way. I hear that nursing school is very difficult and intense so hopefully we will be able to learn from each other and lean on each other! Here's to a great summer and great start in the fall!

Re: Any starting in Fall 2008

I'm part of the older nursing student crowd. I'm 43 and will be 45 when I graduate. You know...I can either be 45 and a nurse or 45 and not a nurse....either way I'll still be 45!! Might as well be doing something new...
