Accelerated Programs and Working
|
|
Was anyone asked to sign a contract or statement saying that they would not work while in an accelerated BSN program?

Interesting. I'd like to see that answers to this question.
That doesn't sound quite fair. Adults should be free to make their own choices about work or not.
However, there was a recent thread about this and the general concensus is that it's next to impossible to work more than a few hours a week and do an accellerated program justice. I have a coworker who works one 12-hour shift a week, but I'd say 6 out of every 10 weeks she's calling the manager saying she's too busy to make it that week (she's per diem).

I am starting a direct-entry MSN program and we were not asked to sign any sort of thing. Our program has of course stated that they highly recommend that we do not work during the program due to the accelerated pace of the pre-licensure section, but they cannot prohibit it.

We were not asked to sign anything, but it was highly rec. that we not work. Those that have attempted to work have found that they don't have enough time to work and adequatly prepare for lectures, test and clinicals. All have quit working within the first semester.

I'm in an accelerated BSN program and we had to sign a contract that we agreed not to work more than 12 hours per week. Only one person in our group works at all and I have no idea how she does it. If admin is saying not to work, there is probably good reason. I was looking for part time stuff before this semester (2 of 4), and I am SOOOO glad I did not find anything. This is way too intense without working! I would be completely insane with even one 12 hour shift a week!
