I am a relatively new school nurse and do not have any kids of my own. Yesterday, I was approached by a teacher who is a single mother of a 12 year old boy. She wanted advice on talking to him about puberty and sex. She stated he is very shy and would be embarassed if she tried to talk to him directly. I gave her a pamphlet about puberty for boys, and suggested she give it to him and then let him know that she is always available to talk or answer questions. Any other suggestions from anyone who may have more experience with this? I would really appreciate any help you could offer.
