Arkansas school nurse

I have thought about becoming a school nurse. I live in Southeast Arkansas and was wondering if you had to have your BSN or not and what the going salary is? Have my ADN and 15 years of LPN.

I don't since I live in Texas. Maybe you could ask a school nurse or the school HR dept. in your area that you wish to work in. Some school districts can vary in accepting RNs, LPNs and degree levels. You may have to check around and choose the one you prefer according to location and pay. Hope that helps.

Hi glolilly! I am a school nurse in North Carolina and due to the military we will (probably) be relocating to the Little Rock area next year. In NC I was hired by the Health Department. I have sent emails to the HR departments of the school district and the health department trying to discern who is the hiring entity of school nurses in the Little Rock area. I know your question isn't for the Little Rock area but if I get an email response I'll post what I find out.

Re: Arkansas school nurse

I'm a nurse in the Bentonville school district in northwest Arkansas. The nurses in our district are RN's with ADN, BSN & MSN degrees. I hope that answers your question. As far as salary goes. Most of the school districts in the state are paying their nurses roughly $25-30,000/year.

I was just curious about school nursing up in the Bentonville area.
1. How many school nurses does the Bentonville school district have?
2. Do they hire new nurses every year (turn over rate)?
3. How much experience is required and is it possible to get the job with a few years of out of school?

Also, do you know anything about Vista Health or any of the Psychiatric facilities up in NWA? Thanks.

How much experience does the Bentonville school district require in order to land a school nurse job? Would they considerd a new graduate with their RN? Also, approximately how many nurses are working in your district and how often does a position become available? Do you know anything about Vista Health up in NWA and what they pay as well? Thanks for any information you can give.

Re: Arkansas school nurse

Sorry I didn't respond in a more timely manner. Bentonville has 13 nurses in their district. School nursing is hard to get into. Being that it's an easy job with great hours, no one wants to give up their position easily. Usually a position opens up once every couple of years. I know that our director likes to hire nurses that have a few years of experience. Pediatric experience is a must for those working in the elementary schools.
I don't know much about Vista health.

Re: Arkansas school nurse

So does your director have a stack of resumes from nurses waiting for a position to open up ? How did you get your position as a school nurse, if you don't mind sharing. What do you do with your summers....do you work additional nursing jobs? Thanks.
