I'm a LPN student and I need some help with postoperative care of a patient who had a prostatectomy. I just need some general info. for my presentation. I can't find it anywhere. Any help would so much be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have access to Cinahl you should be able to find plenty of info there.

Re: prostatectomy nursing care

Patient will have a foley catheter with tension on it, do not remove the tape from the leg. It was placed there by the surgeon in the OR.

Urine can be bloody or blood tinged, usually will have an irrigation running in many cases to keep the foley from getting clotted off from blood or clots. You want the irrigation to run at a rate that will keep the urine flowing and of light color.

Epidural catheters are sometimes used for pain management, and work quite well.

Just some things to think about.
