“preprocess” dialyzers before their first use

Hi everyone,

In our hemodialysis unit, we do not practice rinsing the dialyzer and bloodlines before its first use. These dialyzers are sterilized with EO or ethylene oxide. Anybody here who could comment on the safety issue of this practice? thanks in advance...

Question Re: “preprocess” dialyzers before their first use

Hi bigbrother---

When we use a "dry pack" we usually prime before use. This is to remove any air from the dialyzer and lines. I would think it to be dangerous to put a pt on without running at least 250 ml ns through first, but every company has their own rules.
