By "change the line" do you mean the entire PD catheter as in take them to OR etc or do you mean the transfer set? Either way the answer is "depends". What cultured out of the PD fluid? Was there a possible break in technique causing the peritonitis or was it from a bowel bug? If the peritonitis can't be cleared then the catheter may well be seeded and have to be removed. If it is a sensitive bowel bug we may just treat that and wait to get a no growth culture. Changing the transfer set is relatively easy and we do it at the smallest question of contamination.
