Just sticking my head out to see if there are any LVNs working in the chronic units. I am currently a tech, and my boss tells me that I will still be getting up super early to come in and set up machines for MY patients. And here I thought I would get to sleep in and be relieved of patient assignments. Basically, I will be a med-giving, well-paid technician. With a patient load of all our catheters. boo. but exciting nonetheless. How does it work in your area?

What are you responsibilities in your dialysis unit? Are you taking patient assignments, coming in early to set up your machines? putting on all the caths ad still giving meds in the unit? This is what I have to look forward to as an LVN in dialysis? Anyone care to share how their pay increased going from tech to LVN? thanks!

Am I missing something here? I am an RN, BSN and I still get up early, set up machines, stick pts, put caths on, give meds, take pts off, assessments, careplans, phone calls, monthly pt notations in duck, etc.... I dont ask anyone including the techs to do something I wont do myself. Oh and I also clean machines, unit, mop up the leaky messes when the hoses bust, etc lol. So getting your LVN relieves of those duties? Boy I really did miss something I guess.

I am an LVN in a chronic unit. Our tech makes more money than I do. However he is also our biomed tech, totaly manages the water system and orders supplies. We have an RN manager as well. We all string machines, put on and take off pts. Monitor and troubleshoot. Then there is all the paperwork that is never ending. We answer phones and mop up. On PD clinic day the tech and myself handle the hemo pts. When first shift start comming off treatment, second shift is wanting to start before we can get the machines clean and strung. And get mad if we are not ready when they are too early for their appointed time. It can make a person go MAD!

yea us techs show up at 445, 430 to set up. the nurses get here at 515/600. they don't take patients, they don't set up machines.
