I'm so excited!!!

I just received a call from a dialysis center here in Portland, which I sent my resume to a few days ago and she is very interested in meeting me and interviewing me on Monday @ 2:00.

I have had an interest in dialysis for awhile, but it peaked when I met a great lady at my LTC who has dialysis tx each T, TH and S, she is one of my residents. Plus, I won't have to work nights anymore if I am hired. Yippee!!! I can be "normal" again.

Jnette, if I get this job, I'm afraid I'll probably ask you millions of questions. So beware. LOL.

LOL...I'm in the exact same situation and have also warned Jnette!!!

I'm waiting on the final decision after my reference checks....good luck to you HannasMom and let's hope for the best for both of us...then we can 'gang up' and pester Jnette together....LOL!

(I will also pester Vortex if he'll let me ... as I will be doing acute dialysis...)

Poor Jnette!!! NOT!!! She is an excellent mentor, so I feel lucky we have Jnette to pester.

How did your interview go? Looks like I start my acute HD job Monday so wish me luck....we'll see if this old dog can learn new tricks.

Adapting back to day shift's excessively noisy, rushed environment again after years of working nights will be a major adjustment I'm sure...LOL!

I've been reading some articles about HD to prepare..about disequilibrium syndrome, ultrafiltration, continuous therapy (which I will learn also). Lots of new stuff to learn!!

Let me know how you're doing and I will do the same...we can compare notes and pick brains here together !!

I have found that you will either LOVE it or HATE it... I happen to LOVE it! This Dec. will mark 6 years of doing chronic in-center hemo. Enjoy!

Wow...I've just started and my head is a jumble...LOL!! For some reason all that tubing setup has me freaking out...any hints from experienced dialysis nurses on how to understand it?? We use the Drake Willock 1000..and the HD nurses do it very quickly and I need to break things down and understand them to learn new stuff. Any hints??? How did you guys learn best as a newbie HD nurse??

I diecided not to take the job. It paid less than the LTC.

Wow Hannasmom...I can understand you not taking it...are you gonna stay put at your current position?

My new acute positionless than agency but is comparable to hospital wage, plus I figured I needed a break from hospital work. We'll see if this old dog can learn new tricks...

Hi--just curious to know what dialysis company it was you interviewed with? If you are an RN, I cannot imagine why the dialysis co. would pay less than the LTC--that is so unfortunate--I highly recommend that you look at different companies.

I've worked for Renal Care Group(dialysis co.) and for Gambro. Each company is a little different--both Gambro and RCG have excellent benefits--but RCG had had so much turnover in staff.
