Smile Breaks

I was just reading the story of the nurses union that is suing the hospital for missed breaks. I wonder, how many of you have been told by managers or administrators that they don't have to give you a break or lunch hour at all? I know I have heard it a couple of times at different hospitals and even worked at one where 30 min was deducted from my hours every noc for a break which I could not legally take due to being the only licensed staff on the unit.I was working an intensive care psych unit which was only 14 beds and I worked with 2 techs. The hospital superviser would give breaks to nurses on other units, but she didn't feel qualified to take over psych,so there was no one to relieve me. I was supposed to go sit in a break room on the unit!
