Exclamation Self-Med Programs

How do your facilities incorporate a self-medication program. After initial pt. education about their meds, we start by having them ask for their meds, and if they do so correctly for 24 hrs, we start using pill bottles. (Our night shift fills the bottles just for 1 day..to avoid any med errors). If they are consistently compliant with that we are able to put the meds at the bedside. Granted, that rarely happens, but that is our program in a nutshell. Thank-you in advance for your input. (I've been doing some research on med compliance/adherence at home and was really surprised at how low the compliance rate is for patients.) This really has reinforced how important our self-med programs are! Thanks again.
