Came accross a web sit for Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. Just wonders if anyone belongs to it.

I belong....

I rate it just "ok" as a professional organization. You get a big break on CRRN renewal if you are a member so I join in my renewal years.

ARN is acting a little desperate...their numbers are falling way off. CRRN numbers are about half of what they were in 1990. They just had to drop an advanced practice cert as no one was taking it and states wouldn't recognize it.

Also, ARN's materials for the CRRN exam are horribly overpriced. If you are interested, try and get your unit to join and share the cost.

I belong to it - my manager insists upon it. I expect to take the cert. exam at some point, not sure when. The teaching materials are incredibly expensive.. far more so than any other I know of. Membership is more expensive too. There are no chapters anywhere near where I live, so I can't even benefit from meetings. The journal is so dry it's toxic. I feel like I need resuscitation after trying to read anything, even for CEUs. I belong to another professional association (Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses) which costs less to belong to, has much less expensive materials, and a far more interesting research-based journal. I don't understand WHY the ARN journal is so awful - it doesn't have to be. I see it as one of the worse example of nursing writing I've ever encountered. Technical writing doesn't have to be deadly, but this almost always is. Just my opinion
