Nurse Practitioners, maybe?

A good friend of mine is a psych NP. I haven't worked with her since she obtained that degree, however, because she is now in private practice, specializing in post-trauma stress and/or substance abuse.

I'm curious about this as well because I am a PMHNP (psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner) in Oregon. I have been working as such in both private practice and clinic settings. I'll bet psych nurse generalists don't have much contact with NPs and would love to know what is the experience out there. Also have some self-interest in knowing how NPs are perceived.

I'm a Psych NP in Arizona. I'd love to hear more on this subject as well. I work in the outpatient clinic and cover for MDs in psych hospital. The inpatient nurses "tell me" that they're glad on days that I'm there as I hear them out more than the MDs do and plan more for prns which they say lessens there stress and need to call at midnight for prns.

I'm not sure if others would say that having worked as an RN, we may be more in tuned with issues nurses would bring up or what.

I work at an in-patient acute psychiatric hospital and we have an PhDNP at our site and she is wonderful as well as being the president of the BON and she is always available for whatever our needs are she is just outstanding to work with and always willing to teach us anything we don't understand and is great when trying to decipher dr's orders..................lol...........but honestly IMO they are great and we are very fortunate to have one at our facility
