Hello, Friends,

I posted recently asking for help with common psych meds because I was going to start working prn in our local hospital emotional health and recovery unit (regular job is occupational health and I have experience in oncology). I've started and have to say I absolutely LOVE it. I feel like I've come home. The unit has great nurses and I enjoy working with the patients. I know not all psych units are this good and am very grateful for this opportunity. I began working on an MSN this semester and am seriously considering changing my focus to psych. It feels so right.

I don't mean to discourage you at all, but keep in mind that there's nearly always a "honeymoon" period with new jobs, in any specialty area, and you may feel differently after some time passes. If it were me, I would not make any big decisions right away.

As a "career" psych nurse, I'm glad that you're enjoying your new position so much, and hope that will continue! Best wishes --

Oh, I'm well aware, as I've been around the block a few times. (I'm OLD.) I've been struggling with my MSN focus and this just feels right compared to the other specialty areas I've considered. I also have some personal experience w/psych issues, so it's not all new to me. Entering the field prn is my way of checking the water with my toe. But, like I said, it sure does feel right ....
