The drug reps are really pushing this new drug called "Invega". We have only seen it prescribed a few times on our unit. Anyone have any input on this new medication?

Re: New Med

We had a patient on that a few weeks ago. Can't give you much info b/c don't remember much about the patient other than she had a long psych hx and a bunch of issues. She was discharged within a week so it must have been somewhat effective. Sorry can't help much but I too am very interested in learning about this new med.

Re: New Med

Invega is a new atypical antipsychotic made by the same company that put out Risperdal and is supposedly very similar to Risperdal.

I've seen 3 patients on it in the past few weeks. Fairly good results from what I've seen. One patient in particular that experienced chronic auditory hallucinations and had fixed delusions (had been in our facility over a year) did amazingly well with 12mg Ivega qday...so well that the patient was able to be placed fairly quickly after the start of Invega.

The literature I've read mentions some pretty serious cardiac side effects.
