Hello bit of a daft question, but if you are managing a COPD patient especially who retains co2, if they become acutely unwell i.e. drop their sa02 to 60-65%, is it safe to give 100% 02, or would you give a lower even though their sa02 are low.

no in that case you need to give them o2, but when their sats go back up you will need to decrease their o2.

If someones sats go that low, and it is accurate chances are they will need more than 100% oxygen, they will more than likely need bipap or be put on a vent.
