That sounds very invasive for an employment physical!

Did she introduce herself as a resident or intern? I have never been required to have a prostate exam for any job physical I have had. I agree with the previous posters in that this type of exam is very invasive. Was there something in your hisotry that might have clued her in to the need for this type of an exam? Just a thought?

You should be thankful that she was thorough in her exam! Why on earth would you complain (yes that was sarcasm in case you didn't recognize it)
As far as not having to "endure" a prostate exam for job physicals had she not done an exam and you developed prostate cancer later on you could come back and sue her for not doing the exam. You can probably thank the current state of the medicolegal environment for this inconvenience. More than likely she was covering her a$$ by digitally probing yours.

Then perhaps she was just being very thorough. Deliverygirl99 is right about all the lawsuits.

Yes she was very through!! and the job physical did not require most of what she did it was very embarassing to have to get the exam with a female doc I am asking if it is normal to get a prostate exam at under 40

She was trying to be thorough. It might be uncomfortable but, she's trying to do what's best for you.

Gotta chime in: it does seem a bit odd IMHO with repect to your young age and circumstances (job physical). Agree a check for inguinal hernia would be appropriate.

But maybe this was the highlight of her day.
