My husband a DC who owns a medical pratice .Has MA in his office here in Utah he starts a New MA No experance at 8.00 an hour Then goes up with prior experince. Call your local schools out there .They could give you a better idea of the going rate in your area.
Plus my husband also tests The MA on vitals , sticks and shuch before even considering the MA .He also ask them how would you answer a phone . Sounds funny but a lot of MA are not taught office phone skills. The things they would normally do in an office.

here in Wisconsin they don't hire without state certification anymore. You need to have graduated from an accredited program and pass a state certification exam. Starting is around 11-$12. The training includes administrative duties, clinical duties and lab duties, so an MA is perfect for a clinic setting and can work in various areas.

The pay scale would depend on the area your working in i believe, I think you should just check the basics, is the MA polite, good phone vioce and temperment, can the MA type and I would also inquire about the MA's ability to multi function, how she feels about reporting directly to a nurse and taking instruction from a nurse. can she hear see and write well, the one other thing i think should be noted before hire is her ability to be on her feet for extended times. temperment and personality.... the rest can all be learned easy enough.

Wow! I make less than that as a LPN.

Hello,

How are u doing? I am replying to your thread. I live in MA. and have just completed the medical assistant program. I attended 6 months of school which included alot of hands on and off lecturing/training. I also completed 2 months of externship. This was a total of 8 months. I have been looking for a job in that field for 2-3 weeks now. I keep in contact with my class mates and most of them were either hired at their externship site or elsewhere. Their pay ranged from $12-$16 an hour. The one's who worked at the clinic got paid the least, the one's working at the hospital got paid in between $12-$16 and... the one's working at the Dr office, especially PRIVATE PRACTICE DR> OFFICES got either $15 or $16 an hour.

I have to admit this is akay pay to me. I have never been paid that much in my life so.. I will appreciate anything above $13.00 right now. Although, this may sound good, I have t admit that it is hard to find a job in this field, especially if your a new gard! Everyday i job search and all I come across is CMA, RN, and somewhat LPN... and I even come across a lot of dental assistants.

Well.. good luck to you.

Re: pay scale for medical assistants?

Here in Oregon scale is about $12-$16 hourly.
I have my CMA and have worked for three years and make just over $13. Not much compared to RN, but more than I got as a CNA in nursing homes.
Duties vary state to state so I would check locally for specifics.
