Interview Reasons for Switching to Clinic Nursing

I'm a fairly new RN and have not even had a year's worth of med/surg experience (not the hospital type and have no plans for going back). I've applied to several clinic jobs and I am anticipating an interview. What things could I possibly tell them that I can contribute to the clinic?
When you all were interviewing for your clinic jobs, how did you all answer the question, "So why are are you switching to clinic nursing?" In all honesty one of the big pluses for me is the mon-fri schedule with no weekends, but of course I would never say that in an interview, and that's not the only reason either.
How would you all answer these questions?

Depending on the clinics you interview at:

If you have an interest in OB/GYN or Gastroenterology, etc that you'd like to pursue after your med/surg hospital experience.

It would prepare you for clinic missionary work (if this is true).

Expanding your skills in a clinic setting would be gratifying as you work with pts. for well appt's as well as acute needs.

Personal growth.

Re: Interview Reasons for Switching to Clinic Nursing

You have your hospital experience that you can give them. Like you, I HATED hospital work. What I told my employers was that while the hospital wasn't for me it gave me invaluble experience. If THEY are working in a clinic they will usually understand. I wouldn't be ashamed to tell them you like the schedule either. What my employer told me was that she hired me because of my "attitude and willingness to learn and get along well with others". There were a lot more "experienced" nurses that they passed on for a good attitude. I would play that up.... Hope it works out well for ya!!

Re: Interview Reasons for Switching to Clinic Nursing

It is not a bad thing to mention that you like the schedule either. Remember their are also plenty of nurses that DO NOT want five day a week jobs. Also, if you are like me, I felt that I did not have time to effectively manage care for a patient in the hospital setting. I want to make a difference and I didn't have time to do that while I was playing waitress. If you really like patient education, and didn't have time with the hospital load, then mention that!
