Question patient attendent

I was just wondering if your hospital has patient attendents? They are ordered by an MD to sit with the patient 24/7... I just accepted a job as a patient attendent at the childrens hospital in my area and I have never heard of this position till now. Any thoughts or feelings on them would be great..Thanks!!

Re: patient attendent

Why does the pediatric patient need a "sitter" (what we call them in the ER?)

Re: patient attendent

Yes we have them over here, if the patient is at risk of absconding, if they are a self harm risk, to assess for seizure activity etc.
