Nursery Discharge Planning

Hello All!

Just wondering if any of you out there that work in a Nursery can give info on how you do your discharge instructions. I work in a facility that takes care of mom in postpartum and baby in nursery. We keep the babies w/mom as much as possible and do teaching as we go along until discharge. Alot of the info seems to conflict (per the patients) because each nurse has a different teaching style etc. I was wondering if in any of your facilities have a discharge teaching class for new parents to cover everything uniformly. I read an article in ADVANCE on this and it sounds like it might be a good idea. Of course teaching happens all the time but it sounds like they sit patients down as a group and go over everything and offer handouts, resources and a question/answer session along with their carseat demo. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mary Ann
