Hi all! I am new to this forum but have enjoyed reading it for some time! I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I am interviewing for a new job tomorrow with a local pediatricians office. I currently work in a Level II nursery and have done so for the last four years. I am looking for a change since I am PRN at the hospital and my hours are so unpredictable, as is my paycheck! I think working in a office would at least give me some predictability and countable income, but will my nursery experience be enough for an office environment? I sometimes float to post-partum, so I do have some older patient experience...anyone have suggestions or ideas about moving from hospital nursing to office nursing?

I would focus on your ability to start IV's in children, your knowledge of multiple meds and administration, etc.

What you'll be doing in the office is most likely completely different than what you do know -- in specifics if not generalities. Common stuff can include collecting vitals, dealing with the hospital, phone triage, labratory, patient/parent education (focus on your ability to provide this), administering drugs, assisting with procedures, and billing.

Each job is unique in both what the doctor wants and what the office setup is -- so you really need to ask some questions to get a better idea.
