New Grad Going to Peds!!

Hello, I graduate nursing school in 4 months and i just took a contract in peds on an adolescent unit that also gets hem/onc and endo (I love endo!). I have spent 16 months working in adult med-surg as a PCT and just transferred to Children's Hospital to get a few months experience prior to graduating. Any advice for a soon to be new peds nurse?

No advice as I am behind you at Shadyside, but I wanted to congratulate you on your new position! I think it is awesome that Shadyside new grads are offered positions before graduation! Way to go!

Re: New Grad Going to Peds!!

Thanks. From what I've seen, I'm going to say that at least a third of my class of 90 (and that's a conservative guess) have all ready interviewed places and/or accepted jobs. Three others at min may also come with me to Children's.

Re: New Grad Going to Peds!!

That's good to know! I have friends who work at Children's and they love it. I may look into that when I'm done, but I would LOVE to work Ob/gyn.......esp. Labor & Delivery. I heard that it is hard to get into that w/UPMC though as a new grad. I have plenty of time to think about it, though Congrats again on your position!
