When I called the pediatrician on call at 11:15 at night and he suggested to me that "A fever of 105 is really not that uncommon" I wanted to pull him through the phone and whack him! He never once even suggested that I should go to the ER but offered to see me in the office the next morning. We did go and at that time Colin was afebrile. However that night he shot back up to 104.5 and then the next morning to 105.6. After a day of him NOT eating, barely drinking or nursing and basically inconsolable all day long I called him at 3PM. He was not available and I had to call back 4 hours later at which time he suggested I call my sons regular Dr this morning. Well last night the fever dropped and today he got a rash (o I am assuming it was roseola!) However his lax attitude really scared me and next time I see a 105 We are headed to ER.
Thanks again everyone!

with on-call service like that, I would switch docs. my pediatrician (or the on-call) ALWAYS returns my calls within 10 minutes. dehydration in an infant can quickly become very serious -- I think for that alone he should have told you to go to the ER!
