My husband is in an ADN program for nursing and in PEDS right now. His instructor says that her "bible" is a peds handbook by someone named Harriet Lane. She didn't share the title, and I the organization of the curriculum is a bit questionable in my opinion. I was wondering if anyone knew of this book and could tell me the title? I can help him with med/surg, critical care and cardiology....but the maternity threw me and I'll be about useless with peds. Please help me to help him.

The full title is The Harriet Lane Handbook: A Manual for Pediatric House Officers. It was written by peds residents at Johns Hopkins. It's a good reference. Covers pediatric meds indexed to body weight, growth charts, lab values, treatments, procedures, protocols, differential diagnosis, etc.
I don't think this book is normally used in ADN programs.

Harriet Lane Handbook is a got to have reference! I recommend both the paper and PDA version. Best peds drug book and PDA - Lexi Comp Peds Drug Reference

Thanks for the info. I think I'll go look it up at the library. It sounds a bit advanced though for an ADN student. I have a feeling this is going to be a tough rotation for him and me....

It is absolutely not too advanced for ADN - they are just the quickest most accurate resources to look up Peds information. Any RN at the bedside, not matter the educational background, would have a need for these references. You will not use all of what is in the Harriet Lane, but much of it.
