green poop

So,
my mom was watching my nephew & said his poop was very green. she said it seriously looked like he had sucked on a green marker. he's about to be 4. i've heard green poop is normal for babies but what about at his age??? and my sister said his poop is always green------but she just lets him eat doritos & cookies all day so im worried its a nutritional deficiencies. any thoughts?

Re: green poop

Is he missing any green crayons from the box? If there is concern you should really contact the kiddo's peditrician.

Re: green poop

I agree that a visit to the pediatrician is in order of there is concern, but if he is eating blue dye frequently (fruit loops, kool-aid, ice pops, the list goes on...) that could be the culprit. Every time my kids were sick I gave 'em the pops for fluids, and every time their poop was an unnnatural shade of green.

Re: green poop

Don't forget flavored colas. Grape soda will also turn the poop a nasty green color. Ice pops definately. My brothers would revel at their technicolor poops after downing a whole box of Otter Pops.

Re: green poop

green dye in cookies will alter the color of stool, especially in immature digestive tracts. bad habit is starting. place fruits and veggies in the child's reach. Good Luck

Re: green poop

Fruit roll ups, fruit snacks etc will turn poop an odd shade of greens, blues and some pretty yellow/green shades.

Nearly had my 3 yr old at the GI doc, couldn't figure out what in the heck could be turning her poo those colors. That is until I realized, that the fruit snack she was eating looked JUST the exact same shade as her poo...

Yelled at the hubby for buying such garbage and threw them out, viola' no more funky colored poo.

Blue slushys, otter pops, popsicles, suckers all blue today, green tomorrow!

I know this from personal candy loving history

Re: green poop

In high school I ate a piece of cake with big green frosting leaves on them with Gnarly green die. My next BM was literally so solid green I had to show my friend. Did he eat anything with food die?

I cannot imagine EVER, under ANY circumstances, showing my poop to a friend of mine, no matter how close we are.
