GI Feeds..

When you have a pediatric pt on GT/NG feeds do you warm yours up or just serve it could. Just curious to see what others do...

I usually try to get it to be at least at room temperature- to help keep kids from getting cramps/stomachache especially if it's going kind of fast. Unless it is a chronic patient and the parents say the kid does better with it cold, which I have seen a few times.

I usually don't worry about it. We use only small bowel feeding tubes, the feeds run continuously and at a fairly slow rate. By the time the feed gets to their small bowel it's been well-warmed. On the very odd occasion when we have a kid with a PEG that we're bolus feeding (twice in five years I think) I'll go with room temp feeds.
