It makes us want to be around them. But when their cry or sick or sad..we felt pity to them especially pediatric nurse who always face them everyday to make them feel comfortable. So how pediatric nurse handle such as situation that difficult to them?.And how about your feeling about them everyday.? Why pediatric nurse chose to be as pediatric nurse?

Re: fun with kids

I chose to be a pediatric nurse because kids have always been my favorite humans. I have a medically complex child of my own and was always in awe of the nurses who always seemed to just know how to make him feel better. It can be emotionally trying to look after a very sick child, but it does help that they generally haven't contributed in any way to the development of their illness. For example they don't come to hospital with coronary artery disease from a lifetime of T-bone steak and cheeseburgers. They aren't coming in with advanced lung cancer (such as just carried off my sister in law) from 35 years of smoking two packs a day. They generally are blameless and their innocence is endearing. They are also not complainers. They cry when they're in pain but forget about it once the pain is eased. It's wonderful.

Please don't use text speak on the forums. The terms of service require that proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation is used at all times.

Re: fun with kids

I never really wanted to work in Pediatrics, it scared me to death. Then I was placed in the situation of having to cover in Peds. That day I KNEW where my calling was. I felt so comfortable working with the kids (of course it has grown over the years). I love it now and I don't want to do anything different!

I work peds/peds oncology. I love peds and would never go back to adults.
You don't feel "pity" for kids when they are in the hospital, because you are working to get them better. Kids don't hold grudges. They are the best to work with. Remember, they may be sick while they are there, but the vast majority of them, you are going to send home all happy and healthy.
