PN interview prep

I am interviewing next week for a 20-hr/wk parish/faith community nurse job in a neighboring county. The program is administered by a prominent health system in my area. I have a good idea why I want to pursue the position and what I can offer to this community. I do not know specifically what this particular church is looking for in a nurse, but I would appreciate any info you can give on how I might prepare for the interview with the hospital. Thank you in advance, and God bless!

Linda

Re: PN interview prep

Good luck, RN007. I hope this goes well for you. I've noticed a program where the PN is shared among several churches.

Keep me posted. I'd like to know how it goes.

Re: PN interview prep

Thanks, mauxtav8r. Good to hear from you again. This will be in addition to the 24-hr/wk job I already do. I look forward to hearing what they (the program coordinator and director of Pastoral Care at Baptist Downton) have to say. I'll keep you posted.

Re: PN interview prep

Hello R007

So glad to hear of your interest in parish nursing.

A few questions and comments for you to consider as you contemplate this job.

I assume you will be an employee of Baptist Hospital and under the Pastoral Care Department. Will you receive benefits as a hospital employee such as vacation, sick days, etc.?

How many hours will you be working as a Parish Nurse?

Are your hours and schedule flexible or will you be expected to work certain days? As a parish nurse, I set my own hours.

Who will you report to at the hospital and at the church?

Has this church had a parish nurse before? If so, have you contacted her?

If you are the first parish nurse at this church, what is their understanding of what your job entails?

I have been a Parish Nurse for about 10 years and I will be happy to answer any questions you have either on this site or via pm.

Good luck with the interview.
