When Memory Fails: Helping Dementia Patients Remember God

When Memory Fails: Helping Dementia Patients Remember God

Engaging patients with dementia in familiar rituals of faith elicits positive cognitive, behavioral and spiritual responses. What's going on physiologically in Alzheimer's and other dementias? Why are spiritual rituals effective, and how do these symbolic acts help?

Used to take care of a lady in a nursing home who was really "out there", had just about NO concept of reality - unless you took her to her Bible, religious literature, religious pictures and artifacts - and her face would light right up.

I am interested in working in a pregnancy clinic near me that helps moms make informed decisions about abortion, hopefully deciding for life. They are trying to get an ultrasound machine in there too.

God bless you!

Nurses Christian Fellowship

Nurses Christian Fellowship

NCF began in the early 1940’s when small groups of Christian nurses in several cities began meeting to pray and support each other. They began reaching out to colleagues and to nursing students on clinical rotations in their hospitals. These groups eventually joined together, and became a national ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in 1948. We continue to encourage students, faculty and nurses to explore and connect Christian faith and nursing, and provide resources that help nurses practice nursing from a Christian

The Nurse with an Alabaster Jar

The Nurse with an Alabaster Jar

As Christian nurses, Jesus entrusts each of us with an alabaster jar of precious oil

Ointment, or oil, appears frequently in the Bible. Regarded as a sign of God's rich blessing, oil nourishes the body as well as the soul.

As Christian nurses, Jesus entrusts each of us with an alabaster jar of precious oil. We pour out this oil in daily acts of mercy and physical care, as well as through spiritual care. God gives us the privilege of breaking open the alabaster jar of the Scriptures for people who face uncertainty, suffering and death.

Congregations Facing Community Trauma

Congregations Facing Community Trauma

Community disaster strains all of the resources - the human, spiritual and the economic - of a community. Church leaders find themselves coping with a traumatic event while struggling with its impact on their church and church members, their lives, their families and their friends. This is a time when the church must be the refuge - the safety net for the congregational community of believers, and a beacon to the wider community, for often the it is the spiritual losses that people first feel and express. In the immediate aftermath of a disaster, when the day is most bleak, questions about hope and meaning are the most immediate questions, and the loss of hope and faith elicits some of the deepest pain.
