How many years of OR experience is necessary (in general) prior to travel nursing in the OR?

It depends upon the agency you hire in with. Some want 1 year and some want 2 years. Before you travel, make sure you are comfy in most procedures, can scrub as well as circulate etc… Travelers make the big bucks not only because they travel but because they can also fill any role in the facility they are going to.<<This statement is true for the most part. I am sure you can find exceptions to anything.

Just my 2 cents
