Robotic nurse to replace OR nurse

hello!

did anyone see the thing on tv about someone inventing a robotic nurse which replaces the OR nurse? it's going to be on the market in a few years!

this robotic device does everything the first assistant does! except it makes no mistakes coz every instrument is computer recorded and none will go missing or be left in patient. it even picks up and delivers and replaces the instrument for the surgeon! basically it really does everything a first assistant does! it can even record via camera where the instrument went so you can find it if it goes "missing"!

is this bad news for OR nurses?

The expense and upkeep will keep this from being widely used for a long time I would imagine. Also, what if the robot malfunctions in the middle of the surgery?

I'd like to see a robot scrub a total knee. If robotic scrub nurses appear, I think it would happen maybe 50 years from now.

I read about that on Center for Nursing Advocacy's website:

Wonder if this robot will know the slang terms some of the docs use for the instruments?

Maybe it was just for demonstration purposes but it seems like that thing moved so slow, it would add time to the case.

NO, it does not do everything a scrub nurse and/or FA does. It is just a machine with limited knowledge that cannot assess patients, or suture nor does it think in times of crisis. Besides, machines sometimes screw up, or is your computer perfect in every way?? No, these robots will not be replacing the OR nurses anytime soon.

Ha.... that's way too funny. We have a surgeon that asks for the "sharp pointy thing." He also uses fun terms like give me the "lateral body wall retractor" when all he wants is a large Richardson. It's interesting to watch a new scrub tech work with him. "You want what doctor?" Happens every time.

Enjoy.....
