Can you tell me how RNFAs work in your hospital.? Where I work, I am told they can pretty much function as a surgical resident, under the supervision of the attending surgeon with the exception that they can not write post op orders. Are they allowed to start a case without the attending being the room? Seems I can not find in our hospital P&P manual a specific job descripiton and if I bring it too my managers attention, I fear issues will get really blown out of proportion. What has your experience been working with RNFAs Unfortunately, mine has not been ideal. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
RNFA's are allowed to suture, retract, ream, and drill. I don't believe they are allowed to cut tissue. Thus, they can drape the patient, but they must wait for the surgeon to cut skin.
RNFA is a decent job if you can get it and don't mind standing in one place for several hours.
