Re: Registered Nurse Recovery role

Are you planning on working in the U.S. or is this question directed at Australian nurses?
I can tell you that in the U.S. Recovery Rooms rarely, if ever, hire new grads.
I always tell people that are wanting to go to the Recovery Room to start in ICU for a couple of years. They are the most desired for PACU positions.
But some nurses in the PACU I work in have never worked ICU and were Med/Surg nurses prior to going to the PACU. They still do great work, so ICU isn't necessary, it's just what many PACU managers are looking for when hiring new staff.

Dear Jovigirl

I am in Queensland (Gold Coast) and I have just got into the Operating Theatre and Surgical ward grad program in the gold coast hospital. Did you apply to go into any of the grad programs? I will be doing a 3 month stint in the Recovery room as part of my grad program.
