Red face ok, im new...whats the difference?

is there a difference between a peri-op nurse and a med surg nurse? lets say i want to be in the OR when i am done with school, would it be a good idea to start out a surgical techinician? the school i go to offers a 1.5 year program for surg. tech. basically im willing to spend an extra few years in college to get out of waiting tables now.

Re: ok, im new...whats the difference?

Instead of the extra schoolin', try to get a PCT job in the OR, or after starting nursing school, see if there is an extern position in the OR.

No education is needless knowledge, but time may/may not be better spent...

Whichever way you decide, best of luck to you.

BTW, welcome to AllNurses!!
