I got my RN lic in July 2005, started working at the first place to hire me because I was so happy to get an offer. well I worked there 7 months and left for another Hospital my reason patient ratio 6:1 and the otther place offered 2 dollars more. plus they have a 4:1 ratio
I have only been at the new place since FEb 2006, I had to offers there one was TELE and the other OR. I only shadowed in the OR and it was really nice. I chose the TELE because the the manager was so nice and I know one of the PCT's. WEll what a big mistake....... so far 5 techs from day shift alone have left. nights have one tech so the nurses do alot of the work. during the day we have 2 techs 3 if we are lucky. nurses do their own vitals every four hours. we take patients to x-ray, stress test, ultrasound if they are on tele or cardiac drips. we break down discharge patient charts. we make discharge patients followup appts. we fax admission information to the discharge pt's primary doctor.
Now at least 5 nurses are leaving. I have heard anyone say anything postive about the unit. except 1. the manager is nice and she is new 2. the staff is nice.
our charge nurse has her own patients so she or he is not available for new nurses. My preceptor is really nice and she has worked there for 7 years. She is the longest working employee on the unit. She says she stays because she hopes it will get better plus the money she makes.

I wish I would have chosen the OR.......
Anyway to make this whining story short. I hate this unit. Every day I work with nice people but they are unhappy and it's rubbing off on me. I try to stay away from it but it's really hard.
So I plan to quit again and I hate that because my last LPN job I was there 6 years and i want to find a RN position where I can be interested in going to work. Hell I want to love my job!

So anyway I have a interview for the OR at another Hospital on May 1st
any advice should I stay and see if it works or should I try OR.
I am making myself sick because I want to find a job and stick with it .
forgive me if my words are not spelled correctly or not making sense I was up all night. and wanted to ge this out on the forum in hopes that when I awake later today I will have some advice

I am not sure what you are looking for in the way of advice, but I think you are headed in the right direction. I think some people get the feeling that they are not successful unless they stay with one job for a long time. Keep looking till you find somewhere you like, and stay there until it gets bad again and look again for something else. Always go for a better salary. I have changed jobs mainly for better pay and better benefits. As long as the starting salary always goes up, what could be wrong with change that improves your income? There is nothing wrong with moving. Just move your 401k with you. My longest job was 7 years, then I got laid off!!!Me and about 25 other nurses! No reason to stay if you are not happy. There are a lot of jobs out there, and nothing stopping you from a little change.

Thanks I think I will interview for the OR ask tons of questions, shadow and hopefully be able to make a more informed choice this time around.

Hey, hang in there. I am in the same shoes as you. I cannot decide on what to do because Nursing is such a hard job. I hate floor nursing and OR is hard for me too because I am dealing with really strong personalities everyday.
Anyhow, I don't have much to suggest to you. All I can tell you is, you might get disappointed with the OR too. And don't feel bad for changing your work, it is common that nurses change their jobs 4, 5 times before they find the one that they like.
