First off I know that this website can not give medical advise. I am just looking for information from your experience. I know that every case is different and I AM going to talk to my doctor about all of this. I am just trying to gather information before I see her so that I have done my homework.

I have recently been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I have not yet spoken with my doctor about what we are going to do about it, but I know one of the things she may well recommend will be surgery.

Has anyone here seen a hiatal hernia repaired? How bad is the surgery? Generally is it an inpatient or day surgery procedure?

We can not elaborate to patients as the care administered is based upon many criteria such as age, overall health, etc… only your doctor knows these details and has a planned route for your condition. Since you are a patient and are seeking advice; it is out of our scope to elaborate…you really need to wait until you see your health care provider.

In the mean time since you want to learn about your condition; you should do searches on the internet. You would be surprised on what you can find on operations, procedures, outcomes, etc…

I second what ewattsjt said. I am glad that you got some answers from your EGD ( I spend time on the GI forum) but there are too many variables here to give an answer. Best of luck to you!

Ya i realized that after I posted it that is why I added that I know that it is not a place to look for medical advise. I agree that mods can close this if the thread is inappropriate.
