In a couple sentences or so, could someone tell me what the working conditions are like in the OR- are the shifts 8 hr or 12 hr? What about working weekends? I had a couple observation days in the OR during school and have since then thought about working there. Everyone who I've talked to who works in the OR likes their job compared to many med surg nurses I talk to. What are some "not so good" things about the OR? Any advice is much appreciated!

OR is the only place to work. Sure, there are some people with crappy attitudes but, you will find those everywhere. Take A perioperative nurse coarse at a local institution of higher learning. See if you can get an internship in the OR. Do everything you can to be a cantidate for OR hiring, then do it! I sometimes can't believe that I am being paid to do my job. I love it!

Fun to work in but you lose a few skills and gain others, just like any other environment. Love it but it isn't for everyone. People who work in the OR KNOW they were meant for the OR.
