I would just keep reading AORN standards and guidelines over and over again until I memorized the book.

Thanks mike and bear. I agree...but is there any practice book with multiple choice or any review book like NCLEX? How did you guys prepare for CNOR?

you can google it (CNOR exam prep). There are many resources listed. Years ago, I attended a 2 day seminar. I didn't find it to be especially helpful. I found the standards book was the thing that I needed to study the most. The sample questions in some other books may help in familiarizing yourself with the format though.

Just moments ago I posted on Amazon, my brand new never used CNOR Exam Study Guide and Practice Resource 2nd Edition, by CCI. It was recommended to me when I declared to my coworkers that I was going to prepare for the CNOR exam. I have since changed my mind and enrolled in school for something else.

I just took the CNOR yesterday. You should study the CNOR exam guide and CD with sample questions; the AORN standards and recommendations; and use Alexander's to buff up on any areas you need to. Taking any and all sample tests is a very good idea, because this is a hard test, and I found that the information on test-taking in the exam guide were useful. I was at a bit of a disadvantage because I work in a small rural hospital and do not get exposure to much peds, laser, or eye surgery, or have any responsibility for sterilization of instruments, all of which are represented in the sample questions.

Is anybody getting any benefits from taking the CNOR? I won't; it's a personal development sort of thing for me. No pay increase or corner office ; ).

A criticism: The test administrators cannot give you any idea of what a passing percentage or number of questions are. You know it's 200 questions, 15 don't count because they are being vetted for future tests, and they don't even have a potential range of corrects that would indicate a pass. Knowing what I am shooting for (i.e. a percentage of some sort) is motivating and gives me an idea of whether I am barking up the right study tree when I do the sample tests. At the end of the test the computer congratulated me on passing, but said this was preliminary only, and I would find out for sure in 4-6 weeks -- don't call us. This makes the NCLEX look downright friendly!

Anyone interested in taking CNOR, I have the Standards, Recommended Practice and Guidelines 2007 and the CNOR Exam Study Guide and Practice Resource 2nd edition for sale. I'm not making a career in the OR, so I'm not taking the exam. And Good Luck if you are taking it~!

AORN offers a review book for CNOR exam it has review of nursing process and multiple sections for test. CCI (type this in and you'll get their website) has a tutorial also. I have a older copy of the book and just keep up to date with changes from AORN standards and passed CNOR.
