Re: Best shoes for OR??

I wear size 8, and my Danskos are size 40.

I wear the support socks most of the time, nothing really thick.

Re: Best shoes for OR??

Crocs are very comfortable for most people, and the design "bistro" is the clog-style shoe with a special non-skid sole, thicker material (with no holes). The "croc-stop" tripping issue is avoidable if you pick up your feet when you walk. I can count the number of times I've tripped on 1 hand, and I've been wearing crocs for the past 5 years. A shoe store staff person mentioned that some nurses put a small piece of silk tape across the bottom of the toe to avoid tripping (of course that means collecting all sorts of crap that sticks and clings to the tape throughout the day - yuck!).

Then again, shoe covers would also eliminate the tripping issue. :-)

Good luck shoe hunting! I love crocs but lately been wearing Nike Shox due to the non-holey crocs being prone to smelly feet.

Birkenstocks. Don't autoclave though- I did it once. They were blue- melted and looked like flippers. Otherwise they are the shoes my podiatrist said were the best for me.

Thumbs up Re: Best shoes for OR??

I found a GREAT new shoe... I used to swear by my Danskos.. I found www.thescandinaviancompany.com advertised in the AORN magazine. They had a coupon for 10% off... thought the shoes LOOKED cool, so I ordered a pair. They are THE MOST comfy work shoe I have EVER worn in 19 years of healthcare. They are much lighter than Dansko & don't feel as if I have bricks strapped to my feet. The patent leather clean up easily, I don't slip in them at all, have not tripped or rolled like I have in Crocs or Dansko. They are the best!!!

Re: Best shoes for OR??

I absolutely love my Dansko Professionals. I have been wearing them now for over a year (not the same pair tho, now I have 3 pairs...) I rarely sit down (even at lunch) and I have to say that my feet, legs, and back have never felt better after a day in the OR.

One downfall I would have to say about the DP's is that my feet get kinda sweaty, especially with cute lil socks...but with cotton socks (especially the Peds diabetic socks), sweat is not an issue!!

Honestly tho, you'll probably have to go thru trial and error before finding the best shoe for your feet, legs, and back.

I know a lot of peeps love those Crocs, but I've seen at least 6 people I work with get hurt in those things...the shoe stopped but they didn't...one even fell onto the back sterile table-and of course it was an ortho case with 7 trays of instruments that ALL had to be re-sterilized and obviously delayed the case... ****** off my surgeon and then I had to deal with his nasty lil temper tantrums for the rest of the day. I say back away from the Crocs

Just ordered a pair tonight...can't wait to try them. I wear a size 8(sometimes 81/2 in Dansko type shoes) so I ordered the 8.5/9 with a backstrap in Deep Sea blue. I figured this would be OK since sometimes I like to wear a thicker sock.

I ordered one too!!! The email after ordering was cute with graphics----

Your handcrafted clogs are taking a trip,
Aboard a Swedish Viking ship.
Once landing on the United States Coast ,
They’ll be mailed to you via the U.S Post.

Estimated time of arrival: 2-3weeks.

Thank you for ordering Clogs by C&C Sweden.

I hope it really is comfy like surgerynurse said. My legs/feet are still recovering from an 18 hour day/call.

I know!! That email was adorable..the one thing I couldn't find on the website was how they ran size wise. I hope I got the right size.

Re: Best shoes for OR??

If you 2 don't like the Scandinavian clogs, I will be SHOCKED!!!! Several people I've worked with have worn them, loved them, but were a bit put off by the price. My mom always said if you're going to splurge, do it on your feet.
I'm eager to get a pair in another color, but my hubby is giving me grief..."You've got 2 feet. Why do you need ANOTHER pair of work shoes?" They just don't get it, do they?

Re: Best shoes for OR??

I just got my C&C clogs today(Saturday) and they seem like they are going to be great! They feel more "springy" and cushioned than Danskos..The only problem I foresee is I'm going to want more pairs-I have a big shoe fetish!
