about 5 years ago i had a total knee done. healed perfectly well, although i have always had pain in it. i never went back to nursing after i had it done for other reasons, but in the last few months i returned to nursing in a ltc facitlity, and lo and behold i come down with an infection in the joint. the cultures grew nothing so the docs didn't know what they were dealing with...strept or staph. so i am being covered both by levaquin and IV vanco which was recently changed to IV daptomycin. anyone have experience with this?? i have recovered well, luckily, but the PICC line..ugh!!! i have been experiencing panic attacks as well, one landed me in the hospital for the weekend.
was just wondering if ANYONE out in the world has experienced any of this. i was thinking i picked up mrsa from someone, but nobody can give me answers. which frightens me to go back to work, and i work in a super super clean facility!

Some people are just more sensitive to things than others. That might cause that nagging irritation, and possibly infection if you were up and moving on it more. Just a thought. The body is strange in that it decides when and where it doesnt like something. The body develops sterile abcesses, sometimes we know why,, sometimes we dont. People develop allergies and sensitivities to things without any real reason.

I've seen this in total hips. All the cultures come back negative, but the surgeon covers with abx empirically and they get better.
Had one lady who had dental implants which apparently seeded to her knee, and finally she lost the knee, still no organism found.

A family member is having a total shoulder replacement in the summer of 07.
Is anyone versed on the nature of the replacement parts???????? The material they are made from???????
The replacement will be a "depaul" or maybe it's called a "depeau"?????

It's Depuy, an orthopaedics company owned Johnson and Johnson (J and J being the same company that makes baby powder and band-aids).

Also, the material that the replacement parts are made of depends on the TYPE of Depuy products used, and that will depend on WHY the shoulder is being replaced. The doctor will have a better answer for this.
