No Cast on FX, Why?

I also have recently fractured my distal femur, and I am wondering if anyone here can tell me why I am not in a rigid cast? I have a dressing on the hip and a dressing where the screws were inserted, and was wrapped with a tensor, but that's it. Also, will the hardware be removed or is it there to stay? Any info you can pass along would be great, including websites re: rehabilitation and expected length of recovery.
Thanks.

hi,

Sorry the users of allnurses.com cannot give you medical advice as it is against TOS. Every Fx is different. you need to voice your concerns to your doctor.

What did your doc say when you asked about the cast?

Re: No Cast on FX, Why?

I do not see the doc until the 19th, the GP had few answers for me (he took out my stitches). I did not think I was asking for medical advice, only experience from nurses who have dealt with these types of fractures/rehab of same.

Your surgeon is the only one who can properly advise you.

Good luck.
