Hi everyone!
I am a second semester junior looking for information on the best pathway into oncology nursing. I just finished a clinical rotation working with patients being treated for cancer, and would like to find out more about becoming an oncology nurse. Are internships available? Looking into the not so distant future, and toward my first nursing position, I was curious if nurses are required to be generalists for a while before they are considered for a position in a hospital oncology unit? If they are not required to be generalist first do you recommend a nurse work on a medical surgical unit first, or try to work on an oncology unit first? Can anyone recommend a career strategy or share with me the career path that worked for you?
Thank you!
